EPA Announces Who Gets the Green from the Greendoggle

Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund greases Biden admin’s revolving door

PPT has been shouting from the rooftops for nearly a year that the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) had massive potential for cronyism and conflicts. And with today’s announcement, our worst fears were realized. The GGRF appears to be a giant greendoggle.

By the very nature of the position he held in the Biden administration David Hayes, who reportedly “assisted in developing and implementing climate-related provisions of the IRA [Inflation Reduction Act],” likely helped craft the GGRF. Yet EPA cast aside all concerns about ethics and perceptions and awarded $5 billion to the Coalition for Green Capital, an organization on whose board he serves. In what sane world could they believe this would pass the smell test?

PPT calls on Congress to use its oversight authority to investigate the GGRF and the participation of Mr. Hayes in the development of the GGRF and how an organization he serves with stands to directly benefit from it.

And that’s just one of the most flagrant examples.

One group that sits on the board of Power Forward Communities, a recipient slated to receive $2 billion, is tied to Arabella Advisors, which reportedly spent hundreds of millions of dollars to help elect Joe Biden. Rewiring America also has numerous former operatives from the Democratic party and left-leaning special interest groups, such as NARAL, MoveOn.org, and Media Matters for America, and features perennial Democratic candidate for Georgia governor, Stacy Abrams, on its staff.

The third recipient, Climate United, also has extensive connections to nationwide Democrats, including the former chair of the CA Democratic Party, along with several former Clinton and Obama appointees.

“I would like to be able to say, as the old song goes, ‘I can’t believe the news today,’” said Michael Chamberlain, Director of Protect the Public’s Trust. “But, unfortunately, I can, which is why PPT has been sounding the alarm on the GGRF for almost a year. With this announcement, EPA essentially thumbed its nose at anyone concerned about ethics, conflicts, cronyism, and the revolving door. But, as we’ve seen, this is merely par for the course at the agency during the Biden administration, which is why the public’s trust in its government continues to plummet.”
