Republicans Push To Defund John Kerry’s Climate Office
- July 19, 2023
A group of more than 25 House Republicans, led by Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, is introducing a bill on Wednesday to defund the office of climate envoy John Kerry at the State Department.
The proposed legislation, named the “No Taxpayer Funding for Climate Zealots Advancing Radical Schemes Act,” aims to prevent the allocation of federal funds, including those for salary, administrative, and travel expenses, to Kerry’s office.
In 2021, President Biden appointed Kerry as the first-ever special presidential envoy for climate, a role that does not require Senate confirmation and grants him a position in the president’s cabinet and on the National Security Council.
