WESTERMAN SEEKING AUDIT OF INTERIOR’S ETHICS OFFICE: Natural Resources Ranking Member Bruce Westerman wants Interior’s inspector general to audit the department’s ethics office after two watchdog groups filed complaints against Secretary Deb Haaland‘s senior counselor, accusing her of working on matters that involve her former employer and clients, the Washington Examiner’s Andrew Kerr reports.
Westerman wrote Inspector General Mark Greenblatt yesterday, saying the department has failed to respond to dozens of inquiries about its personnel and compliance with ethics standards.
The letter and associated ethics complaints were filed by Energy Policy Advocates and Protect the Public’s Trust and allege that Elizabeth Klein failed to disclose to ethics officials all of the clients she worked with as part of her work with the Mike Bloomberg-funded State Energy and Environmental Impact Center, which placed lawyers in the offices of Democratic state attorneys general to file legal challenges against Trump-era federal environmental policies.
